Why We Do What We Do
LiveSafe™
At NexTier, our safety philosophy is driven by the LiveSafe™ program—reflecting the core values shared across all Patterson-UTI companies and reinforcing our dedication to personal and environmental safety.
Achieving an incident-free workplace takes everyone working together at the jobsite, with a shared focus on making sure every team member returns home safely each day. LiveSafe™ strengthens our culture of responsibility, empowering us to work safely, support one another, and protect those around us at every NexTier facility and location.
How We Prepare and Execute
Phalanx™ Tactical HSE System
When preparing for and executing operations, we rely on our Phalanx™ tactical HSE system that drives safe execution through disciplined and consistent safe operating actions across all teams. This system is built on key elements that reinforce our commitment to achieving zero serious incidents.
Take an intentional moment to establish situational awareness, confirm execution steps and task assignments, and verify safeguards are in place and communicated.
All employees participate – through job safety analysis, quality observation participation, driving safety and skills competency development.
Safety doesn’t stop after the briefing. PAUSE prompts teams to reassess hazards and make proactive adjustments before and during every task, every time.

What We Do: Cornerstones For Life
Our Cornerstones for Life are fundamental safety rules that guide how we work at NexTier to protect ourselves and those around us. Every employee is expected to complete the required pre-start checks to ensure safe execution and has the obligation to stop work if a Cornerstones for Life violation is identified. These principles address our highest-risk areas, reinforcing the critical importance of each safety focus.

How Do We Measure Safety?
Fatal and Physical Impairment (FPI) is a safety metric building on the foundation of Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) tracking. Unlike traditional metrics that focus on outcomes, FPI emphasizes identifying potential risk exposure before serious harm occurs.
By focusing on the conditions that could lead to life-altering injuries or fatalities, FPI allows us to take proactive measures to prevent incidents, supporting a stronger, more forward-looking safety culture.
